Who are we?

We are a registered church in Slovenia and an association of Local Churches that operate throughout Slovenia with the aim of proclaiming the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and preparing his Church for her Savior. Although each church is independent and has its own leadership or committee, we choose to be in fellowship with one another for the purpose of mutual accountability, sharing gifts, growing together spiritually, and to encourage one another. We believe that such unity, community, and mutual cooperation best reflects the “body of Christ,” which is the Church.

We seek to be communities of grace, whose hands are open to all, to reflect Christ to the people around us. As people have received from Jesus Christ and come to know who he is, our communities provide space to journey together by supporting and encouraging each person to grow in the call and purpose God has for each individual. As Pentecostals, we believe that God has given us his Spirit, as has been shown in the history of the early church. God speaks through his Holy Spirit, guides us, encourages us, heals us, and works miracles, thus showing his love for the world. It is the task of the Church to hear and discern his voice and to love and serve our communities.

The message of the Bible speaks to the challenges of life, and we consider it is authoritative and life giving. When a person trusts in God’s will and purpose, the Holy Spirit works in the individual giving belonging, purpose, and spiritual fruitfulness. Through repentance and conversion, the believer is motivated to do good and not bad. Such a person passes from darkness into spiritual light, from death into life, their sins are forgiven, and they are included in the family of God. When believers follow Christ's example, the "heavens are open," God makes known his will and purpose - as an individual and as a church community. When believers are open to the purpose of Christ and accept this call by faith, the Holy Spirit leads them to perform works of love and service to others. We believe that everyone who believes and accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior belongs to God’s family,  bears spiritual fruit, and has service to Christ in the center of their  lives.

What's our history?

The Pentecostal movement began in Slovenia in 1933, when believers experienced the powerful work of the Holy Spirit in their lives. As the faith of many people grew, there was a movement from brothers and sisters throughout former Yugoslavia these groups were named the Evangelical Pentecostal Church of Yugoslavia. After the break-up of Yugoslavia in 1991, each republic established its own national leadership.

The Slovenian church was renamed as the Pentecostal Church in the Republic of Slovenia. We are a group of believers who, with others churches, hold the Nicene and Apostolic creeds as our own. We believe that the Triune God is present through the Holy Spirit and works today just as he did in the  book of Acts. The Bible tells of the history of God’s people from creation, the time of Moses, through to the end of the life of the apostle John. Throughout history, believers on all continents have continued to write this story of God.

The first seven years of the Pentecostal movement in Slovenia are beautifully summarized in the book Prvih sedem let: Binkoštno gibanje v Sloveniji v letih 1933-1941. God is now continuing to write his story in the life of every believer, and you too can be a part of this great story.

What do we believe?

We are a Protestant church who hold to the pillars of the faith presented by the Church Fathers throughout history and church councils until the 8th century, when there were divergent paths.

  • The Nicene Creed (First Council of Nicea 325 AD).

  • The Apostolic Creed (thought to have developed from the Baptismal declaration in the 3rd and 4th centuries).

The Pentecostal Church in the Republic of Slovenia has its own Faith Statement, which pastors and church leaders will be happy to discuss with you. Jesus, too, was always ready to talk and discuss matters of faith and doctrine, but he did so with grace and in a suitable environment.
